PNB’s Rakshak Plus Scheme

Supporting India's Real Heroes: PNB Offers ₹17 Cr Aid to Martyrs’ Families

Shweta Singh

At a time when news moves fast and stories fade quickly, Punjab National Bank has quietly done something that deserves to be remembered. Under its Rakshak Plus Scheme, PNB has provided ₹17.02 crore in financial support to the families of 26 soldiers and paramilitary personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

This isn’t just about money. It’s about honour, support, and showing up for those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice.

A Promise Kept, When It Matters Most

The aid was disbursed as of June 11, 2025. These weren’t routine cases—they included soldiers killed in high-risk operations like the one in Birli Gali. For their families, the sudden loss is life-changing. Through Rakshak Plus, PNB ensured that the support didn’t come late, didn’t get stuck in red tape, and didn’t feel like a formality. It felt like a genuine gesture from a system that often feels distant.

So, What is the Rakshak Plus Scheme?

At its core, Rakshak Plus is a special zero-balance salary and pension account designed for India’s defence and security forces. But more than just an account, it acts as a financial safety net — one that’s built with real risks in mind.

It’s available to:

  • Army, Navy, Air Force

  • Paramilitary forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB

  • State police and city police in commissionerate areas

  • Intelligence agencies like RAW, IB, CBI

  • Coast Guard, RPF, NSG, SPG, NDRF, and Fire Services

  • Retired personnel and even trainees and cadets

Real Benefits for Real Risks

For serving personnel, the scheme offers:

  • ₹1 crore in personal accident insurance

  • ₹1.5 crore for death in an air accident

  • ₹10 lakh extra if the death is in anti-terror or anti-national activity

  • Coverage for disability, funeral expenses, and emergency medical needs

  • Education benefits of ₹5 lakh per year for two children for four years

  • Up to ₹10 lakh for marriage of a girl child

Retired personnel also receive significant coverage — ₹50 lakh for accidental death and similar scaled benefits across categories.

On the banking side, it includes:

  • Overdraft up to ₹3 lakh

  • Sweep-in facility to manage surplus funds

  • Free DDs/POs, reduced locker charges, waived fees

  • Zero balance accounts for family members

  • Access to credit cards, loans, and exclusive concessions

Other Linked Schemes

PNB has also launched:

  • Agni Rakshak for Agniveers under Agnipath — with similar benefits

  • Police Rakshak for central and state police forces — offering ₹40 lakh accident cover and ₹80 lakh air accident insurance

These schemes are carefully crafted—not one-size-fits-all, but tailored to the needs and realities of each service.

A Step That Goes Beyond Business

There’s a reason why this story feels different. It reminds us that some institutions still believe in their role beyond profits. PNB didn’t have to go this far. But they chose to.

By supporting these families in their hardest moments, the bank has done something quietly powerful—it’s made trust tangible. For the soldiers who are no longer with us, this is one way of saying: you’re remembered. And for those still in service, it says: your family won’t be forgotten.
