The HONOR Magic9 Pro Max goes all-in on performance, professional imaging, battery capacity, and a larger display, while the HONOR Magic9 delivers much of the flagship experience in a smaller and lighter body. HONOR released the Honor Magic9 and Magic9 Pro Max in China on 28th September 2026 as part of its new flagship family. Interestingly, there is no Honor Magic9 Pro this generation. HONOR has instead positioned the Magic9 Pro Max directly above the standard Magic9, alongside a third Magic9 Super Edition.
The two phones share several flagship features, including dual 200MP camera systems, MagicOS 11 based on Android 17, and up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. However, the Pro Max gets a more powerful processor, a larger screen, a bigger battery, faster charging, and more advanced professional video hardware, giving it an edge in the flagship battle.

Processor: Pro Max gets the newer Snapdragon chip
The HONOR Magic9 runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Pro Max moves to the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 SoC. The Pro Max chip reaches up to 5.01GHz with an Adreno 850 GPU, compared with 4.6GHz and an Adreno 840 GPU on the Magic9.
Both are flagship chips, but the Pro Max should handle demanding games, AI features, video editing, and other processor-heavy tasks better.
Battery: Bigger and faster-charging on the Pro Max
The HONOR Magic9 packs an 8,000mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, which is already generous for a compact flagship. The Pro Max increases this to 8,800mAh and supports faster 100W wired and 80W wireless charging.
For heavier users, that extra capacity should help the phone last longer between charges, while the faster charging speeds can cut down the time spent waiting for the battery to fill up.
Display: Compact vs large flagship screen
Both phones use 120Hz OLED panels with peak brightness of up to 10,000 nits, so smoothness and outdoor visibility are broadly similar. The main difference is size: the Magic9 has a 6.37-inch screen at around 461 ppi, while the Pro Max stretches to 6.8 inches at roughly 464 ppi.
Sharpness is nearly identical, but the Pro Max gives more room for gaming, video, and editing, while the Magic9 is easier to handle.
Cameras: Pro Max gets better camera hardware
The main flagship difference shows up in imaging. Both phones get HONOR’s H1 imaging chip and the full ARRI imaging package, including LogC3 recording and 87 ARRI Looks, but the camera hardware differs. The Magic9 Pro Max uses a larger 1/1.28-inch main sensor and a 1/1.4-inch telephoto sensor, while the Magic9 model uses a 1/1.4-inch main sensor and a 1/1.56-inch telephoto sensor.
HONOR Magic9 Pro Max also gets stronger CIPA 8.0 stabilisation on both cameras. These camera upgrades should help the Pro Max capture more light, keep zoom shots sharper, and reduce blur when shooting handheld, especially at night.
Design: Compact glass or larger metal body
The HONOR Magic9 has a curved glass body and weighs around 209g, giving it a slimmer, lighter flagship feel. The Pro Max uses a unibody metal frame, weighs about 233g, and feels more solid in hand. Its larger size also allows for a bigger display and battery.
