Cleanliness: Why so important in our life? – Amit Vikram Mohanty

Mahatma Gandhi had always focused on the cleanliness and hygiene of individuals and society. Gandhiji devoted a lot of time to spreading awareness about sanitation, cleanliness, and hygiene.

But it is unfortunate that even after a century (close)  India has not been able to achieve Gandhiji's vision.  The most astonishing fact is that educated and qualified people are also responsible for this mess up of the environment.

The idea of writing this article came to my mind when I saw the sudden importance given to cleanliness by none other than Mr. Modi. It can be said that cleanliness is an integral part of life, not a day or a couple of day's initiative. It's good that at least the initiative has been started and it's a long journey to travel.

I am even happier that this initiative is getting a positive response. So we must educate as many people as possible on this topic. I remember my school days when we volunteered for cleanliness and kept our school premises clean.

All the students and teachers contributed to the success of it. When the villages spread around the school noticed it, and many of those people got involved in building a clean atmosphere. This is the power individual!! You start good work, and others will follow you!!

In my view, the three most important things to keep clean are –

Keep your inner self clean: Believe me, if you keep your heart clean, you will be the happiest person in the world! This is for you guys to figure out how to be clean at the core.

Clean up of Speech: Your words are the most impacting weapon you ever have. You can control this. Your words can make a person happy or sad. So why don't you choose between these options? And it is the easiest option you may have in any of the exams.

Clean up of every bad thing: You think you are almost done by staying clean from the heart and cleaning up the bad languages. But that's not the end of it. We should not forget the fact that there are many more areas where we can put our effort into spreading cleanness. A few of the classic examples:

Throwing garbage anywhere – most Indians consider every vacant place as a dustbin,

Spitting on the walls or floor or anywhere – they don't care about others feeling and those people have no respect for cleanness

Doing the things not supposed to do – people tend to ignore the gentle advice written but follow strictly when they are heavily fined. Can you think of the things which you should not do…Now be a part of the Clean India movement.
