NDTV Journalist Ravish Kumar Receives Ramon Magsaysay Award
One of themost influential TV journalists and senior executive editor of NDTV RavishKumar has been awarded with this year's Ramon Magsaysay Award for harnessingjournalism to give voice to the voiceless and his unfaltering dedication toprofessional, ethical journalism of the highest standards. Ravish has won thishonor for his news show, Prime Time that deals with real-life, under-reportedproblems of ordinary people.
Ravish isamong the five persons who were awarded this honor. The four other winners areRaymundo Pujante Cayabyab from the Philippines, Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea,Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, Ko Swe Win from Myanmar.
MagsaysayAwards is known as 'Asia's Noble Prize, and it is among the highest honors inthe region. It was established in 1957. It celebrates the memory and leadershipexample of the third Philippine president after who the award is named, and isawarded every year to person or organizations in Asia who manifest the sameselfless services and transformative impacts.
Ravish Kumarhas been with NDTV since 1996 and has suffered a lot of problems because of hisfearless plain-speak. His childhood started in Jitwarpur in Bihar, and hepursued his early interest in history and public affairs at the DelhiUniversity. And, by winning this honor, he has joined the list of anothernotable winner like Kiran Bedi, Arun Shourie, K Laxman, P Sainath, and others.In a time, when TV journalism is losing its credibility, a person like RavishKumar is becoming the voice of reason. And, he deserves this honor.
