NDTV Journalist Ravish Kumar Receives Ramon Magsaysay Award

One of the most influential TV journalists and senior executive editor of NDTV Ravish Kumar has been awarded this year's Ramon Magsaysay Award for harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless and his unfaltering dedication to professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards.

Ravish has won this honor for his news show, Prime Time which deals with real-life, under-reported problems of ordinary people.

Ravish is among the five persons who were awarded this honor. The four other winners are Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab from the Philippines, Kim Jong-Ki from South Korea,Angkhana Neelapaijit from Thailand, and Ko Swe Win from Myanmar. 

Magsaysay Award

Magsaysay Awards is known as 'Asia's Noble Prize, and it is among the highest honors inthe region. It was established in 1957.

It celebrates the memory and leadership example of the third Philippine president after who the award is named and is awarded every year to person or organizations in Asia who manifest the sameselfless services and transformative impacts.

Ravish Kumarhas been with NDTV since 1996 and has suffered a lot of problems because of his fearless plain-speak. His childhood started in Jitwarpur in Bihar, and he pursued his early interest in history and public affairs at Delhi University.

And, by winning this honor, he has joined the list of other notable winners like Kiran Bedi, Arun Shourie, K Laxman, P Sainath, and others.In a time, when TV journalism is losing its credibility, a person like Ravish Kumar is becoming the voice of reason. And, he deserves this honor.
